Glen Powell Claps Back: ‘Stop Comparing Me to Ryan Gosling’

Glen Powell knows that Glenergy and Kenergy are both powerful in their own unique ways.

The Twisters star weighed in on an unnamed producer’s recent remarks comparing his star power to Ryan Gosling’s on social media on Tuesday. And, naturally, he did it with a sweet reference to Gosling’s beloved Barbie hit, “I’m Just Ken.”

“Gosling is a legend,” he wrote, posting an article with the producer’s comments. “I’m just Glen.”

The producer broached the topic as part of a recent analysis of Powell’s career that The Wrap published on Monday.

“Glen Powell is most definitely an up-and-coming movie star in the sense that audiences now go to movies to see him,” the source said. “Unlike an actor like Ryan Gosling whose appeal is mostly limited to female audiences, Glen appeals to both females and males.”

Powell has enjoyed major career success since shooting into the stratosphere after the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. In the past two years alone, he co-wrote and starred in the Richard Linklater–directed action film Hit Man, brought back the rom-com with Sydney Sweeney in Anyone but You, and blew past box office expectations with an $80.5 million opening weekend for the sequel Twisters.

Of course, Gosling is great at doing stuff, too. He recently starred opposite Emily Blunt in the romantic comedy The Fall Guy, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. And if that weren’t enough, he also led a sing-along at the Oscars ceremony with his fellow Kens Simu LiuNcuti GatwaScott Evans, and Kingsley Ben-Adir.

Fans of both Gosling and Powell were quick to comment on the comparison with their own cheeky Powell and Barbie references. “Hey, you’re Glenough!” one user wrote. Another added, “Your job is tornado.”

Even Liu voiced his support for Powell’s reaction, writing simply, “Niccccccce.”
