Daniel Radcliffe has said he is “so proud” of the length of time he spent underwater while filming Goblet of Fire.
During Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry takes part in the Triwizard Tournament – where pupils from competing schools go head to head against one another.
They are set several dangerous tasks and one of them was that they had to swim to the bottom of the Hogwarts lake to retrieve something.
The four champions – Harry Potter, Cedric Diggory, Viktor Krum and Fleur Delacour – each had to save something important to them.
In the film, the characters were given one hour to and could use various potions or magic to help them swim under water for that long.
Harry ate gillyweed which gave him the ability to breathe underwater while Viktor partially transfigured into a shark.
While the swimming task was only part of the fourth film, Daniel Radcliffe has said how long it actually took to film the scenes.
In a TikTok posted by @soyuncis which has nearly 100,000 likes, an old interview with the Harry Potter star revealed they took over 40 hours to film.
Daniel said: “I really enjoyed the filming and it was hard work and it was really difficult. It was very physical, but it was really rewarding. I’m very proud”
The actor explained that the total time he spent underwater for filming was 41 hours and and 38 minutes over the course of about three weeks. The filming took place in a large pool, but covered with a blue background which would then be used for CGI to create the lake and other effects.
Robert Pattinson who played Cedric Diggory was also interviewed and said they didn’t know what the scene would look like when filming. He added: “You had no idea what the scenes would look like. There was just massive amounts of blue screens.”
